Summary: The global COVID-19 pandemic has introduced a level of disruption into our personal and professional lives that was previously unimaginable. How we respond will be a deciding factor for the future success of our practices. Summary: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to our patients for in-person treatment may be limited and our ability to develop a relationship with patients/caregivers may have taken a toll due to facility protocols to protect against the spread of infection. As health care providers, we must reflect on our abilities to communicate with patients and their families, ensuring understanding of their deficits and treatment options even as we continue through a pandemic. This course provides the clinician with a review of holistic assessments and health literacy approaches that will empower the patient to make informed decisions. Summary: Behavioral tests for CAPDs can be affected by many factors, including cognition, development, compliance, and language ability, which limits interpretation of test results. This session will discuss electrophysiological testing, which provides an objective method of assessing the neural integrity of auditory processing at multiple levels of the auditory system and can aid in the interpretation of behavioral test results. Summary: This session analyzed the correlation between the binaural summation measured via acoustic reflex thresholds and the results of the masking level difference established for 500 Hz in 60 participants. The Pearson Correlation Analyses between the MLD values and the binaural summation revealed a significant (r= 0.277; p = 0.032) correlation when the probe stimulus was presented to the right ear and the reflex evoking clicks were presented to the left ear. Although the correlation is significant, the effect size is small, suggesting that each measure may provide information about both similar and different aspects of binaural processing and can be included in a battery of auditory processing disorders (APD) tests.

Summary: It is commonly understood that better outcomes for management and treatment of hearing loss can be linked to greater knowledge and acceptance of the condition by the patient/client/student and their families. Knowledge is power. However, often individuals and their families do not have access to an impartial site hosting a variety of resources for review. This presentation discusses the need and development of an accessible and neutral site where individuals and their families can access diverse information and a variety of literature around topics related to hearing loss. It will also cover the steps for the development of a cultural and informational center, including tips on fundraising and overall management.

Summary: Parents and caregivers rely on their audiologist to help develop their understanding of their child's hearing loss. According to recent research, parents' needs for knowledge go beyond understanding their child's hearing technology. Within the framework of Self-Determination Theory (SDT), this presentation discusses the topics and resources families describe as being critical to understand.

Summary: Teleaudiology is demonstrating potential to make hearing care more accessible and affordable. The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted digital solutions for remote care not as a convenience but as an essential tool for safe health access. This course reviews basic concepts underlying teleaudiology and explores current trends and future directions in this rapidly changing space. A range of new trends in digital audiology, including novel technologies and service-delivery models, are explored with consideration of future directions.

Summary: It is incumbent upon each member of a patient's health care team to play a role in ensuring a safer medication use experience based on basic principles regarding polypharmacy. This session uses case studies to explore polypharmacy and synergistic effects to help audiologists contribute to positive overall medication results for their patients.
