Summary: Language assessment in children who are deaf or hard of hearing often focuses on language outcomes without a precise characterization of the child's language learning history. Speech-language pathologists and other early interventionists need support in ensuring that the child's cumulative experience with linguistic input (or lack thereof) is also captured. This session presents a practical approach for this process that follows emerging research on language access profiles. Summary: This course is the first in a set of practical programs that address specific aspects of remote practice (telepractice) in audiology. This initial course explores audiologists' perceptions of barriers to providing telehealth services and introduces the Health Belief Model (HBM) and Transtheoretical model to assess readiness for remote service provision. The course includes an on-demand recording and a worksheet activity/tool to help you identify needs and barriers as you consider how you can incorporate teleaudiology into your practice.

Summary: Many of the static assessments administered by speech-language pathologists have some degree of cultural assumptions and are often limited in representing diverse groups. Summary: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to our patients for in-person treatment may be limited and our ability to develop a relationship with patients/caregivers may have taken a toll due to facility protocols to protect against the spread of infection. As health care providers, we must reflect on our abilities to communicate with patients and their families, ensuring understanding of their deficits and treatment options even as we continue through a pandemic. Summary: Despite the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 stating that people with disabilities should have access to their communities, a critical component has often been overlooked—training emergency first responders to communicate with people who have complex communication needs. In this session, two SLPs demonstrate how they have trained nearly 2,000 emergency first responders.
