Summary: This session discusses a project that established a cross-sector national consortium of self-advocates with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), family advocates, community providers, and health care professionals. Summary: Early childhood is a critical period for auditory, language, and cognitive development, and early identification of permanent hearing loss provides the opportunity for children to receive appropriate and timely intervention and educational services. When children are identified late, they are at increased risk of permanent speech, language, and educational delays. This on demand webinar will discuss the prevalence of late-identified hearing loss in young children, opportunities to identify hearing problems, and stakeholder actions needed to support child development.

Summary: Motivation often declines as children reach adolescence. Poor motivation inhibits participation and engagement in language-based interventions. The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate how intervention can be designed to increase client motivation to participate in therapy while improving language-based literacy skills. This session presents motivation and behavior change techniques based on self-determination theory. It also includes examples of how to integrate these techniques into interventions with adolescent clients to satisfy their need for autonomy, relatedness, and competence while simultaneously addressing language-based literacy deficits.

Summary: This session describes the value of interprofessional practice (IPP) on a pediatric FEES (flexible [or fiberoptic] endoscopic evaluation of swallowing) team. The presenter shares FEES case studies that illustrate this collaborative model for dysphagia management; describes the successes and challenges encountered by the IPP team during pediatric FEES; and reviews current FEES literature in the pediatric population.
