Summary: It is commonly understood that better outcomes for management and treatment of hearing loss can be linked to greater knowledge and acceptance of the condition by the patient/client/student and their families. Knowledge is power. However, often individuals and their families do not have access to an impartial site hosting a variety of resources for review. This presentation discusses the need and development of an accessible and neutral site where individuals and their families can access diverse information and a variety of literature around topics related to hearing loss. It will also cover the steps for the development of a cultural and informational center, including tips on fundraising and overall management.

Often, this is due to limited research, a lack of high-quality research, or the absence of a clear takeaway from external scientific literature. In this course, participants will learn more about these obstacles and strategies to overcome them. Summary: SLPs and audiologists alike may struggle to implement evidence-based practice (EBP) into their daily practice because they simply don’t have the time or resources to keep up with a rapidly growing research base. ASHA’s Evidence Maps serve as a time-saving, free, online tool that provides clinicians with a quick synopsis of synthesized research related to clinical practice. New and experienced users of the Evidence Maps will learn the ins and outs of features and navigation via a case study and guided practice to better locate and assess relevant research evidence to integrate into clinical decision-making.
