Summary: This webinar will discuss all aspects of echolalia, a complex and often misunderstood language phenomenon. The speaker will discuss the origins of echolalia and review the evidence that supports it as a positive indicator of language development. Summary: This on demand webinar focuses on case examples that demonstrate a language-based approach to managing echolalia, from delayed echolalia to self-generated language. Using video clips and language sample excerpts, the speakers describe the stages of gestalt language development, illustrate the varieties of echolalia, and review case examples of the successful use of the Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) protocol to support gestalt language development in three individuals. The speakers also propose transparent terminology that can be used to help explain NLA to colleagues and families.

Summary: Infants, children, and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) vary greatly in their needs, as the core challenges differ depending upon developmental level, family and child preferences, and more. This webinar illustrates how to use the evidence-based SCERTS framework in assessment as well as intervention planning and delivery to support social communication and relationship development. Summary: Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) can be life-changing for many individuals, but due to its complex and commercial nature, it also comes with a myriad of potential ethical concerns. Clinicians can improve AAC assessment and intervention outcomes for those they serve by being confident they are making ethically informed decisions about AAC use. This webinar uses case studies to discuss common ethical dilemmas encountered in the use of AAC, leaning on the ASHA Code of Ethics for support. The presenter outlines a process for ethical decision-making and shares trends in school and health care settings that affect ethical decision-making as it relates to AAC use.

Summary: Language is a highly complex human behavior, and yet SLPs often are expected to assess children for language disorders by administering a single, standardized test. However, this "one-size-fits-all" approach often yields inadequate results.
