Summary: To make a difference for our students we can’t work alone; yet, collaboration is hard. This course – part of a series that proposes practical approaches to overcoming the big challenges school-based SLPs face – focuses on concrete, realistic strategies for making collaboration work in schools, using case scenarios to explore different implementations of collaboration. The course guides you through practice activities designed to identify solutions tailored to your environment and the unique communication needs of your students. Summary: Due process hearings are legal procedures established in special education to provide for resolution when the parents and school personnel disagree. This session reviews ethical principles associated with due process and the legal responsibilities associated with being a witness in a due process hearing. Summary: The practice of mindfulness is more than a fad - it is key to managing stress, improving awareness, and acting with intentionality. Summary: Social communication involves the integration of language processing, pragmatics, and social and emotional learning, and is a challenge for children who present with developmental language disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and social communication disorder. This session presents a bibliotherapeutic intervention approach that SLPs can implement within a plan-do-review format. This practical approach utilizes brief (~15 minutes) story sharing, story enactment, and journaling activities.
