Summary: With increased age, comes a greater chance of falls. The health effects of a fall and the often-difficult recovery affect a patient's quality of life (including the ability to live independently) as well as his or her family. This session discusses how patient-centered audiology care can significantly reduce the risk of falls in older adults. The presenter discusses fall prevention options and patient outcomes.

Summary: This session explores what is currently known about the downstream effects of hearing loss in older adults and discusses ways to proactively optimize communication outcomes for older adults using cochlear implants. Summary: Many clinicians may feel they lack the time, skills, or competence to effectively address diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); it might feel like one more thing on an already-long list of considerations and requirements. But if we focus on our passion for working with people and change our perspective about providing culturally responsive services, then it's not more work, it is the work. This course discusses the value of addressing DEI as part of audiology and SLP services and provides practical ideas for doing so.

Summary: This session addresses the management of pediatric vestibular and balance disorders. Summary: This session addresses the diagnosis of pediatric vestibular and balance disorders. Summary: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to our patients for in-person treatment may be limited and our ability to develop a relationship with patients/caregivers may have taken a toll due to facility protocols to protect against the spread of infection. As health care providers, we must reflect on our abilities to communicate with patients and their families, ensuring understanding of their deficits and treatment options even as we continue through a pandemic. This course provides the clinician with a review of holistic assessments and health literacy approaches that will empower the patient to make informed decisions. Summary: The session describes a case study that investigated the effectiveness of using a Comprehensive Integrated Approach to treat stuttering with a bilingual-bicultural Spanish-English adult who experienced stuttering. The case study queried whether a monolingual English-speaking clinician could effectively guide a bilingual-bicultural Spanish-English speaking adult who stuttered to transfer skills to a second language. The intervention addressed the client's bilingual-bicultural performance on measures of speech fluency, strategy use, reactions to stuttering, problem-solving, and quality of life.

Summary: This recorded session from the ASHA Audiology 2022 Online Conference provides a comprehensive overview of today's modern and highly sensitive neurodiagnostic vestibular tests, including rotary chair, cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP), and video Head Impulse Testing (vHIT), as well as postural stability assessments. The presenters discuss how integrating these tests creates a diagnosis-based strategy that provides the team of diagnostic and rehabilitation professionals with direction and guidance as to the best vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) strategies for the individual patient. The session includes video examples of the range of VRT strategies, including adaptation and habituation.
