Summary: This session explores what is currently known about the downstream effects of hearing loss in older adults and discusses ways to proactively optimize communication outcomes for older adults using cochlear implants. Summary: This session shares findings from a tertiary care hospital at the center of the COVID-19 pandemic response in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and provides an opportunity to compare and contrast findings with global patterns and local experiences. This investigation summarizes the clinical conditions, management, and functional outcomes of adults admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 and dysphagia, and offers insights into risk factors and clinical predictions of favorable swallowing outcomes.

Summary: This on demand webinar (available beginning March 30, 2024) will guide SLPs in knowing what to listen for in the speech and resonance of children with cleft palate, cleft lip and palate, and/or velopharyngeal dysfunction and will discuss how to differentiate active, passive, and adaptive articulations. Summary: Many clinicians may feel they lack the time, skills, or competence to effectively address diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); it might feel like one more thing on an already-long list of considerations and requirements. But if we focus on our passion for working with people and change our perspective about providing culturally responsive services, then it's not more work, it is the work. This course discusses the value of addressing DEI as part of audiology and SLP services and provides practical ideas for doing so.

Summary: This session presents a study of 19 children ages 5-7 with inaccurate /r/ who were followed every 3 months until they acquired /r/ or turned 8 years old, whichever came first. Acquisition was determined for three separate allophones of /r/: vocalic, prevocalic, and postvocalic.

Summary: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to our patients for in-person treatment may be limited and our ability to develop a relationship with patients/caregivers may have taken a toll due to facility protocols to protect against the spread of infection. As health care providers, we must reflect on our abilities to communicate with patients and their families, ensuring understanding of their deficits and treatment options even as we continue through a pandemic. This course provides the clinician with a review of holistic assessments and health literacy approaches that will empower the patient to make informed decisions.
