Summary: This course is one part of a four-course learning path/course set, Foundations of Effective Supervision. Feedback and reflection is a key component of professional growth—for supervisees and supervisors. Self-assessment plays a vital role in improving the skills of clinical educators, preceptors, mentors, and supervisors, and this course will provide the opportunity for clinicians to explore their own competencies in supervision based on the results of a self-assessment tool. The course will discuss specific competencies from five overall knowledge and skill areas and give participants the opportunity to brainstorm and share scenarios. Summary: This webinar will discuss all aspects of echolalia, a complex and often misunderstood language phenomenon. The speaker will discuss the origins of echolalia and review the evidence that supports it as a positive indicator of language development. Summary: Ethical leadership, anchored in transformational leadership theory, forms the basis for civility in the workplace. Embodying ethical leadership, ASHA’s focus on communication has resulted in research on declining civility nationally and its implications for members. This growing awareness has prompted ASHA to develop a suite of tools and resources for building and sustaining civility in the CSD professions. Summary: This course examines The PLAY Project®, an evidence-based home intervention and consultation program for young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The program uses developmentally appropriate, play-based methods and coaches parents and other caregivers to extend treatment beyond the therapy sessions. The presenter explores the program’s main assessment and intervention principles, highlighting specific techniques and activities. The course also presents multiple case studies as useful examples of children's progress in treatment, the practical challenges of implementing a program, overcoming funding obstacles, and the importance of multicultural awareness in ASD intervention, including the adoption of the model for Ohio’s Part C Early Intervention System and a project that implemented the program with a low-income, underserved population in the Caribbean island country Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Summary: Toddlers with a range of communication disorders can be minimally verbal past the age at which children typically begin speaking. This session describes an integrated approach using AAC and interventions that target vocalizations to increase expressive language and speech production in young children who are minimally verbal or nonverbal. This course is a recorded session from the 2019 online conference “Birth to Three: Working Together to Serve Children and Their Families.” It appeared in the conference with the title Working With Preverbal Infants and Toddlers Toward Early Speech.
