Summary: Principles of motor learning (PML) are guidelines developed for the purpose of training motor execution of movement. Initially designed for training in the limbs, the methods have been adapted for use with the oral motor system. This course reviews how PML can be employed in training protocols targeting speech production.

Summary: Written expression is one of the four major modalities (along with listening comprehension, spoken expression, and reading decoding and comprehension) that SLPs need to assess when identifying language and literacy disorders among school-age children and adolescents. This session shares a framework for analyzing the variety of tasks used for written language assessment on standardized tests and considers pros and cons of each to inform decisions regarding eligibility and dismissal. The session includes opportunities to practice applying a multilevel language analysis system to written language samples of students with varied profiles. Summary: Selecting and interpreting a CAPD test battery that is appropriate to the individual patient is critical to securing much-needed services and achieving positive outcomes. Many audiologists use a standardized, normative-scored CAPD test battery rather than a test battery driven by specific patient characteristics because they do not know how to appropriately select a comprehensive test battery or because of beliefs that testing cannot be performed for certain populations (e.g., children younger than age 7). This session will discuss tips for putting together patient-driven testing options, including how to administer and score them. Summary: Children and adults who use cochlear implants and have additional exceptionalities present challenges in diagnostic testing and therapeutic intervention for speech-language pathologists and audiologists. Summary: Neurodivergent SLPs (including those with dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety, autism, etc.) have unique insights and expertise, making them invaluable assets for fostering client-centered care within speech-language pathology practice. In this session, three neurodivergent SLPs who started their own private practices due to lack of supportive and accessible options discuss employment and supervision barriers. They share systemic and individualistic shifts to support neurodivergent SLPs.

Summary: Audiologists help to diagnose or rule out vestibular disorders and make recommendations for referrals and treatment. As part of treatment, quality of life must be discussed. This presentation discusses the current diagnostic criteria used for vestibular migraine, symptoms, assessment protocols, and treatment options. The speaker reviews the relationship between vertiginous migraines and Meniere's disease and addresses considerations for pediatric patients.
