Summary: Technology is ever-evolving, so it can be difficult to know what options are available—and which are evidence-based. This session will review recent literature and provide examples of assistive technologies (AT)—including those that are visually based, auditory-based, or a combination—and resources that can be used with students with (C)APDs. The presenter will also discuss nontraditional resources such as online and in-person support groups for parents and professionals for those situations when an expert is not available. Summary: This session discusses auditory brainstem implants (ABI) as an option for individuals who typically cannot benefit from conventional amplification or cochlear implants as they don't have an implantable cochlea or functioning 8th nerve. Summary: Published research indicates that outcomes in children with hearing loss are generally lower than their hearing counterparts. Given the cascading effects auditory deprivation and language delays may cause in children, providing differential diagnoses can present a challenge. This course identifies commonly occurring comorbid presentations in children with hearing loss and describes the process of making differential diagnoses.
