Summary: Infants, children, and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) vary greatly in their needs, as the core challenges differ depending upon developmental level, family and child preferences, and more. This webinar illustrates how to use the evidence-based SCERTS framework in assessment as well as intervention planning and delivery to support social communication and relationship development. Summary: This course provides a brief overview of the current diagnostic method and its limitations, followed by discussion and demonstration of effective objective and semi-automated speech measures for identifying acquired AOS in both stroke and progressive forms. Video case examples and demonstrations of these measures will be provided so that clinicians can immediately begin putting this knowledge into practice.

Summary: This video course will focus on using evidence-based exercise practices in swallowing rehabilitation. The speaker will discuss the theoretical background and evidence for exercise science and then present exercise-based techniques that SLPs can implement with patients. Specific topics will include motor learning, skill vs. strength training, and muscle structure and function. Specific exercises will be discussed, including isometric lingual strength training, expiratory muscle strength training, chin tuck against resistance, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, and more.

Summary: Children’s verbal skills differ for many different reasons. Some may have a specific deficit in learning language rules and structures; for others, the differences in expression may result from underlying limitations in memory skills, or in the cognitive control and flexibility needed to plan and monitor communication. This webinar examines how limitations in working memory and other executive functions affect language and learning generally. The speaker discusses assessment and intervention strategies related to executive functions.

Summary: There is not one single, authoritative construct or definition for central auditory processing disorders (CAPDs), which often results in patients receiving a general diagnosis that is not deficit-specific and management strategies that are not individualized and therefore produce less impactful outcomes. This session will describe an alternative approach to characterizing CAPDs – that is, identifying specific clinical entities within the broad construct of CAPDs that professionals can unambiguously diagnose and for which deficit-specific interventions can lead to improved outcomes in auditory processing.
