Summary: Ethical leadership, anchored in transformational leadership theory, forms the basis for civility in the workplace. Embodying ethical leadership, ASHA’s focus on communication has resulted in research on declining civility nationally and its implications for members. This growing awareness has prompted ASHA to develop a suite of tools and resources for building and sustaining civility in the CSD professions. Summary: A thorough cranial nerve examination is an essential part of the speech-language pathologist’s evaluation of every patient. When performed, it is useful in the diagnosis of speech and swallowing disorders, and accurate diagnosis is crucial for development of a targeted, individualized treatment plan. This video course provides an overview of the neuroanatomy and physiology of the cranial nerve examination. Participants will receive detailed instructions for testing and interpreting findings of the cranial nerve examination. The course also describes common abnormalities observed for patients with impairment of cranial nerve function.

Summary: This course provides an overview of the essential elements of planning and implementing successful dysphagia intervention. The speaker reviews how to select and utilize appropriate treatment strategies and techniques by summarizing specific compensatory, bolus modification, postural, and rehabilitation strategies for oral and pharyngeal dysphagia and discussing the evidence underlying these strategies. Summary: To support infants in the NICU setting and maximize oral feeding outcomes for these babies, SLPs need to consider the maturational status of premature infants, medical conditions of ill newborns, and positive and negative experiences in the NICU. This webinar will address the maturation of the oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal phases of swallowing, which directly affect safety and efficiency, as well as medical conditions that increase an infant’s risk of feeding disorders. We will explore evidence-based interventions designed to improve feeding experiences, taking into account maturational and medical status, and discuss the concept of homeostasis and its importance in the NICU.

Summary: An information-rich videofluoroscopic assessment can help clinicians determine which components of the complex oropharyngeal swallow need to be targeted for intervention. Visualizing all of the elements that contribute to a well-integrated or disordered swallow mechanism requires an ordered and disciplined review. This video course demonstrates methods to enhance clinicians' ability to perform a videofluoroscopic assessment and discern the discrete elements of the oropharyngeal swallow. Participants can practice determining the integrity or disorder of the swallow mechanism by viewing and interpreting case study video.
