Summary: This course features moderated discussions among a panel of clinicians who collectively provide cochlear implant auditory rehabilitation (AR) to patients of all ages. Topics and discussions demonstrate the need to expand and differentiate intervention approaches based on the unique needs of individual patients with cochlear implants. Summary: There has been a renewed interest in the provision of aural rehabilitation (AR) services as part of patient-centered hearing health care. Aural rehabilitation is a holistic approach to the management of hearing loss that may include patient education, fitting of devices, and auditory training exercises. Although audiologists may recognize the benefits of comprehensive AR, questions may remain about how to measure functional outcomes of these services. This course reviews functional outcome assessments for aural rehabilitation and how to incorporate these measures into everyday practice to enhance patient success.

Summary: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to our patients for in-person treatment may be limited and our ability to develop a relationship with patients/caregivers may have taken a toll due to facility protocols to protect against the spread of infection. As health care providers, we must reflect on our abilities to communicate with patients and their families, ensuring understanding of their deficits and treatment options even as we continue through a pandemic. This course provides the clinician with a review of holistic assessments and health literacy approaches that will empower the patient to make informed decisions. Should I recruit employees vs. subcontractors? What is my target client population? Should I accept insurance? Summary: Clinical care in the intensive care unit (ICU) is exceptionally dynamic; patients may present differently day to day, or even hour by hour, and so their lab values and medication needs may fluctuate often. SLPs need to remain extraordinarily aware of changes in these lab values and medications to inform their ongoing assessment and treatment. This course examines classes of medications and lab values, their effects on a patient's presentation, and how they may influence SLP assessment and treatment as well as interprofessional decision-making.
