Summary: In this series of articles, the need for clear guidelines in graduate education on the topic of transgender voice and communication is explored through an e-survey. Considerations for culturally competent voice care is presented in the context of two case studies. Case studies are also used to highlight the importance of an interdisciplinary gender affirming approach for successful voice care with adolescence. In the final article, a voice technique is adapted for voice masculinization.

Summary: This webinar will review the current state of hearing loss and hearing health care among individuals living with dementia, with an emphasis on addressing existing care disparities. The speaker will discuss the association between hearing loss and cognition, its impact on individuals living with dementia, and opportunities to expand access to hearing care through community-delivered approaches. Summary: This session reviews what it means for a measure to be objective, subjective, and/or valid and applies these concepts to fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). Summary: Modifying diet consistencies is one of the more common approaches to dysphagia care. However, much controversy remains regarding how SLPs tackle decision-making and about the actual modification and measurement of liquids and foods in terms of nutrition and safety as primary goals of dysphagia treatment. This session addresses the complexities in both processes, with a focus on achieving the best outcomes for each patient.

Summary: This session addresses fully engaging the patient and decision-makers in the process of informed consent around diet consistency modification, particularly in the SNF setting. Presenters discuss relating the results of instrumental assessment of swallowing to the structure and function of the swallowing mechanism, allowing for critical thinking about risks and benefits of all the possible diet consistencies as one component of the overall plan of treatment for dysphagia.

Summary: SLPs and audiologists alike may struggle to implement evidence-based practice (EBP) into their daily practice because they simply don’t have the time or resources to keep up with a rapidly growing research base. ASHA’s Evidence Maps serve as a time-saving, free, online tool that provides clinicians with a quick synopsis of synthesized research related to clinical practice. New and experienced users of the Evidence Maps will learn the ins and outs of features and navigation via a case study and guided practice to better locate and assess relevant research evidence to integrate into clinical decision-making.
