Summary: A thorough cranial nerve examination is an essential part of the speech-language pathologist’s evaluation of every patient. When performed, it is useful in the diagnosis of speech and swallowing disorders, and accurate diagnosis is crucial for development of a targeted, individualized treatment plan. This video course provides an overview of the neuroanatomy and physiology of the cranial nerve examination. Participants will receive detailed instructions for testing and interpreting findings of the cranial nerve examination. The course also describes common abnormalities observed for patients with impairment of cranial nerve function.

Summary: Audiologists and SLPs often face challenging ethical dilemmas related to evaluation and intervention with multicultural and multilingual populations. Interpretation and application of the revised ASHA Code of Ethics (2023) may seem daunting and leave you with questions such as, "How do these changes impact me?" and "Can I refuse to provide services if I don't feel competent to treat a non-English-speaking individual?" This on demand webinar reviews the provisions of the revised Code of Ethics related to culturally responsive intervention and shares problem-solving strategies to work through ethical dilemmas you might encounter in professional practice.

Summary: This course is one part of a four-course learning path/course set, Foundations of Effective Supervision. The webinar focuses on the impact of diversity on the supervisory relationship and the importance of cultural competence in clinical supervision. Speakers examine the influence that language, labeling, stereotyping, and implicit bias have on the supervisor and supervisee, as well as discuss strategies and techniques to improve cultural competencies for supervising SLPs and audiologists.

Summary: As visibility for transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) folks increases, audiologists and SLPs may wonder how to ensure their practice is inclusive and affirming. This on demand webinar explores culturally competent and inclusive care for gender diverse individuals. The course includes evidence-based practices, knowledge building about TGNC identities, strategies for maintaining safe spaces, and interactive case studies

Summary: This video course will focus on using evidence-based exercise practices in swallowing rehabilitation. The speaker will discuss the theoretical background and evidence for exercise science and then present exercise-based techniques that SLPs can implement with patients. Specific topics will include motor learning, skill vs. strength training, and muscle structure and function. Specific exercises will be discussed, including isometric lingual strength training, expiratory muscle strength training, chin tuck against resistance, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, and more.

Summary: Behavioral interventions that provide a calibrated mode for strengthening inspiratory and expiratory muscles are limited and often non-evidence-based. This on demand webinar discusses the evidence base for respiratory muscle strength training (RMST) devices and shares the assessment and treatment protocols necessary for valid implementation of respiratory muscle strength training protocols. The course will be useful for SLPs working in health care settings treating acute and chronic conditions that impact the functions of breathing, coughing, swallowing, and vocalizing that result from skeletal muscle weakness.
Presenter(s): Pamela Dodrill, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: An information-rich videofluoroscopic assessment can help clinicians determine which components of the complex oropharyngeal swallow need to be targeted for intervention. Visualizing all of the elements that contribute to a well-integrated or disordered swallow mechanism requires an ordered and disciplined review. This video course demonstrates methods to enhance clinicians' ability to perform a videofluoroscopic assessment and discern the discrete elements of the oropharyngeal swallow. Participants can practice determining the integrity or disorder of the swallow mechanism by viewing and interpreting case study video.
Presenter(s): Kara Fletcher Larson, MS, CCC-SLP
Credit(s): PDHs: 2.0, ASHA CEUs*: 0.2
Summary: This webinar explores various aspects of working with pediatric patients with complex aerodigestive disorders. Speaker Kara Fletcher Larson discusses the developmental progression to oral feeding, implementing safe feeding plans, weaning from gastrostomy tube feedings, and working within a multidisciplinary team.
