Summary: This on demand webinar will explore the use of videostroboscopy and videoendoscopy to inform assessment and management of voice disorders (e.g., identification of physical factors, vocal technique factors, hygiene issues, stimulability testing, etc.). Summary: This webinar will discuss all aspects of echolalia, a complex and often misunderstood language phenomenon. The speaker will discuss the origins of echolalia and review the evidence that supports it as a positive indicator of language development. Summary: Early intervention programs and technological advances have made it possible for children born with hearing loss to attain levels of spoken language proficiency not previously possible. But these children need appropriate intervention to acquire spoken language at their optimal level. This webinar explores six principles of intervention that can effectively facilitate the acquisition of spoken language. Speaker Susan Nittrouer discusses relevant research and case studies to support the six principles and their role in maximizing outcomes.

Summary: Voice disorders are a prevalent and persistent problem in older adults. As the number of people over age 65 continues to increase, SLPs likely will see a growing demand for their services to treat age-related communication problems, including disorders related to the “aging voice.” This webinar will explore the typical age-related changes in each of the three major subsystems involved with voice production (respiratory, laryngeal, and resonatory) and explain how these changes affect vocal quality and ability. The presenters also will discuss appropriate assessment and intervention options, providing an overview of medical, surgical, and behavioral treatments.

Summary: The need for community-viable, evidence-based intervention strategies for toddlers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a national priority as earlier diagnosis becomes more common. This webinar will present strategies for taking evidence-based research and applying it to practice. Using video examples, the presenters will discuss the findings from the randomized controlled trial of the Early Social Interaction Project (ESI), which teaches parents how to embed evidence-based intervention strategies and supports in everyday activities in natural environments to promote their child’s active engagement. The webinar will also illustrate strategies for utilizing the Autism Navigator, a collection of web-based courses and tools using extensive video footage, for parents, professionals, and others with the goal of improving outcomes for young children with ASD.

Summary: Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) can be life-changing for many individuals, but due to its complex and commercial nature, it also comes with a myriad of potential ethical concerns. Clinicians can improve AAC assessment and intervention outcomes for those they serve by being confident they are making ethically informed decisions about AAC use. This webinar uses case studies to discuss common ethical dilemmas encountered in the use of AAC, leaning on the ASHA Code of Ethics for support. The presenter outlines a process for ethical decision-making and shares trends in school and health care settings that affect ethical decision-making as it relates to AAC use.
