Summary: Addressing the vocabulary learning needs of your students can be daunting. Where do I start with vocabulary target selection? What is the best way to teach my students to efficiently learn vocabulary for language and reading comprehension? This session explores semantic learning expectations for academic success and shares evidence-based practices for providing opportunities to increase vocabulary knowledge and use. Summary: Motor planning is an individual difference that impacts much more than motor skills, including social-emotional skills and speech and language development. Summary: This course focuses on a meaning-based approach to language assessment and intervention for intentional communication skills in young children. The nonlinguistic and linguistic context support meaning-driven communication expressed with language form from the child. Speakers discuss language sample analysis and the developmental hierarchy of Language Content/Form/Use, and highlight how this approach is less biased than norm-based assessments when used with children from culturally and linguistically diverse contexts.

Summary: Deaf children are seen in increasing numbers in public schools and SLPs' private practices, though there are few graduate-level programs that prepare SLPs to work with this culturally and linguistically unique population. This course is intended for SLPs with little to no knowledge of bilingual (American Sign Language [ASL] and spoken language) assessment of children who are Deaf/hard of hearing. The session provides a beginning foundation so that you can approach the assessment of a bilingual DHH child with an increased sense of awareness and tools at your disposal.

But these children need appropriate intervention to acquire spoken language at their optimal level. Summary: The need for community-viable, evidence-based intervention strategies for toddlers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a national priority as earlier diagnosis becomes more common. This webinar will present strategies for taking evidence-based research and applying it to practice. Using video examples, the presenters will discuss the findings from the randomized controlled trial of the Early Social Interaction Project (ESI), which teaches parents how to embed evidence-based intervention strategies and supports in everyday activities in natural environments to promote their child’s active engagement. The webinar will also illustrate strategies for utilizing the Autism Navigator, a collection of web-based courses and tools using extensive video footage, for parents, professionals, and others with the goal of improving outcomes for young children with ASD.
