Summary: In the era of COVID-19, clinicians in health care settings have faced challenges in the evaluation and treatment of a new patient population - those who have had COVID-19 - requiring us to reframe our current treatment techniques. This session focuses on reinventing the speech-language pathologist's approach to treatment of respiratory activity tolerance for motor speech. It addresses collaboration with physical and occupational therapists for incorporation of dual motor tasks with more traditional treatment. Summary: Individuals who stutter--as well as their families--can experience a range of emotions, thoughts, and interactions around stuttering that can negatively impact quality of life. Counseling is a critical area of SLP practice to address these needs. Summary: Fingerspelling is prominent among educated deaf and culturally Deaf adults who use American Sign Language (ASL). Research suggests that d/Deaf signers use the same cognitive processes in "reading" fingerspelling that they use in reading print. This session reports comparative measures of speechreading across three tests of varied difficulty in 44 d/Deaf adults who also took a pseudo-word fingerspelling test presented with and without mouth movements. Presenters translate findings to encourage clinical research and practical application for audiologists and speech-language pathologists working with hard-of-hearing and deaf adults. Summary: Principles of motor learning (PML) are guidelines developed for the purpose of training motor execution of movement. Initially designed for training in the limbs, the methods have been adapted for use with the oral motor system. Summary: The session describes a case study that investigated the effectiveness of using a Comprehensive Integrated Approach to treat stuttering with a bilingual-bicultural Spanish-English adult who experienced stuttering. The case study queried whether a monolingual English-speaking clinician could effectively guide a bilingual-bicultural Spanish-English speaking adult who stuttered to transfer skills to a second language. The intervention addressed the client's bilingual-bicultural performance on measures of speech fluency, strategy use, reactions to stuttering, problem-solving, and quality of life.
