Summary: The use of telepractice for dysphagia management has increased dramatically due to the challenges of in-person practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this on demand webinar, the presenter will share step-by-step, evidence-based guidelines for the safe and reliable use of telehealth for dysphagia management in both pediatric and adult patients. The speaker will discuss legal safeguards, privacy and confidentiality considerations, technology infrastructure, clinician training and skills, facilitator training, and patient candidacy considerations. The webinar will include video case examples, problem-solving activities, and demonstrations of telepractice adaptations for clinical (bedside) swallowing evaluations and treatment sessions. During the webinar, the speaker will guide participants in the creation of a practical roadmap to implement telepractice with their patients with dysphagia.

Summary: This session introduces a language intervention program for middle and high school students-Philosophy for Adolescents-that is designed to support critical thinking, narrative and expository discourse, and the use of complex syntax and literate vocabulary such as abstract nouns and metacognitive verbs. The speaker discusses and demonstrates intervention using Philosophy for Adolescents through role-playing activities that engage participants as they work through a lesson in pairs or small groups.

Summary: SLPs have noted the diagnostic challenge of distinguishing between the clinical indicators of language disorder, language delay based on the impacts of being reared in poverty, and the linguistic variation of students who speak African American English (AAE). The speaker discusses age of acquisition of sounds as well as evidence for treating late-acquired sounds earlier in a child's development. Summary: This activity focuses on the childhood maltreatment consequences on social pragmatic communication. Based on a complex family and social conception of neglect, a logical model illustrating public health services for children experiencing neglect is proposed. The role of speech-language pathology in prevention, policy, and practice is outlined. The importance of assessing the narrative language of children exposed to complex trauma is also emphasized.
