Summary: In this course, enter into a conversation between an SLP and an individual living with dementia about the experience of being on both sides of the provision of speech services. Summary: This course features moderated discussions among a panel of clinicians who collectively provide cochlear implant auditory rehabilitation (AR) to patients of all ages. Summary: The provision of comprehensive auditory rehabilitation services is critical to successful patient outcomes, yet many audiologists focus primarily or exclusively on amplification due to time, reimbursement, and compliance challenges. Summary: Background talkers and noise negatively influence speech recognition, but far less is known about the effects of acoustic background competition on speech comprehension and memory. This course discusses experiments that indicate that background voices and noise exert a negative influence on spoken narrative comprehension and memory, even when narratives have been presented at positive signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) that ensured accurate target speech recognition.

Summary: In this series of articles, the need for clear guidelines in graduate education on the topic of transgender voice and communication is explored through an e-survey. Considerations for culturally competent voice care is presented in the context of two case studies. Case studies are also used to highlight the importance of an interdisciplinary gender affirming approach for successful voice care with adolescence. In the final article, a voice technique is adapted for voice masculinization.

Summary: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to our patients for in-person treatment may be limited and our ability to develop a relationship with patients/caregivers may have taken a toll due to facility protocols to protect against the spread of infection. As health care providers, we must reflect on our abilities to communicate with patients and their families, ensuring understanding of their deficits and treatment options even as we continue through a pandemic.
