Summary: This course focuses on a meaning-based approach to language assessment and intervention for intentional communication skills in young children. The nonlinguistic and linguistic context support meaning-driven communication expressed with language form from the child. Speakers discuss language sample analysis and the developmental hierarchy of Language Content/Form/Use, and highlight how this approach is less biased than norm-based assessments when used with children from culturally and linguistically diverse contexts.

Summary: Autism can present quite differently in boys and girls, and research demonstrates that many girls and women are being misdiagnosed or missed entirely. Summary: Older adults must make important decisions about their end-of-life care, and those with hearing and other communication disorders need special accommodations to participate in these important decisions to the fullest extent possible. Summary: Noise is prevalent in everyday life, and the general population lacks awareness of the risks of hazardous noise exposure and strategies to reduce noise-induced hearing loss. By integrating hearing loss prevention education into patient encounters and taking advantage of outreach/education opportunities, audiologists can help reduce the prevalence of noise-induced hearing loss. Summary: This on demand webinar discusses evaluation and treatment strategies for adults with self-perceived hearing concerns after a head injury, despite normal (or near normal) audiometric thresholds, with a focus on veterans. The webinar reviews comorbid conditions associated with self-perceived hearing difficulties and how treatment of the comorbidities can improve self-perceived hearing ability. The presenter discusses the current gaps and debates in the literature to highlight questions that need further exploration to provide the best, evidence-based hearing health care.
