Summary: This course explores factors that diminish the cognitive capacity of communication sciences and disorders (CSD) students, including poverty, racism, and discrimination based on socially marginalized identities, including disability. Summary: Published research indicates that outcomes in children with hearing loss are generally lower than their hearing counterparts. Given the cascading effects auditory deprivation and language delays may cause in children, providing differential diagnoses can present a challenge. This course identifies commonly occurring comorbid presentations in children with hearing loss and describes the process of making differential diagnoses.

Summary: This session presents a review of the empirical uses of experimenter-created morphological awareness assessment tasks found in recent literature. The presenter summarizes assessments by type of morphemes assessed, type of morphological task employed, intended age ranges, and possible administration modes. The goal of the presentation is to provide clinicians with the relevant information from recent morphological awareness assessment literature for them to feel confident in selecting morphological awareness assessments for their own clients.

Summary: Children with developmental language disorder (DLD) can demonstrate a range of characteristics and challenges, which can appear not only in their language abilities but also in their cognitive and motor abilities. This on demand webinar will give SLPs a deeper understanding of the common characteristics associated with DLD as well as individual differences among children with the disorder. The webinar will share examples of how to tailor vocabulary and reading interventions for children with DLD.

Summary: Far too often, current learning priorities keep children and young adults focused on daily work, grades, and performance, creating a disconnect between habit mastery and the long-term needs of their future self. This session presents effective and evidence-based strategies to improve children's abilities to envision and execute goal-directed and future-focused actions. The presenter discusses strategies to strengthen future-oriented reasoning and emotional regulation during gratification postponement so students can effectively predict performance challenges, anticipate glitches, and handle mistakes while keeping in mind their future needs.
