Summary: As students move from learning to read to reading to learn, they step onto the path toward becoming active, independent, strategic academic learners. This session explains strategy intervention, which is supported by a strong body of research evidence and well-suited to the expertise and resources of school-based SLPs. The speaker discusses selecting teachable strategies, teaching through spoken interactions around written texts, connecting to the classroom, and moving strategies from SLP teaching tools toward student learning tools. Summary: This session covers a unique case of bilateral temporal bone fractures: one that spares the otic capsule yet presents with a large sensorineural component. The speaker describes the anatomy and physiology of the temporal bone to provide background information about potential structures that can be damaged in a fracture as well as explain the varying etiologies of temporal bone fractures (TBF). In addition, this session discusses possible outcomes from a TBF in relation to hearing loss and facial nerve function and potential implications for treatment, including cochlear implantation.
