Summary: This session demonstrates how to use SUGAR, a method of language sampling analysis, for conducting and analyzing language samples more efficiently and effectively. The speaker shares free resources and a case study, during which participants can use the SUGAR framework to analyze a language sample, interpret the results, select intervention targets, and write curriculum relevant goals. Summary: Published research indicates that outcomes in children with hearing loss are generally lower than their hearing counterparts. Given the cascading effects auditory deprivation and language delays may cause in children, providing differential diagnoses can present a challenge. This course identifies commonly occurring comorbid presentations in children with hearing loss and describes the process of making differential diagnoses.

Summary: As students move from learning to read to reading to learn, they step onto the path toward becoming active, independent, strategic academic learners. This session explains strategy intervention, which is supported by a strong body of research evidence and well-suited to the expertise and resources of school-based SLPs. The speaker discusses selecting teachable strategies, teaching through spoken interactions around written texts, connecting to the classroom, and moving strategies from SLP teaching tools toward student learning tools. Summary: Far too often, current learning priorities keep children and young adults focused on daily work, grades, and performance, creating a disconnect between habit mastery and the long-term needs of their future self. This session presents effective and evidence-based strategies to improve children's abilities to envision and execute goal-directed and future-focused actions. The presenter discusses strategies to strengthen future-oriented reasoning and emotional regulation during gratification postponement so students can effectively predict performance challenges, anticipate glitches, and handle mistakes while keeping in mind their future needs.
