Summary: Clinical services for tinnitus have expanded greatly since the "masking" method was introduced in the 1970s, but no one treatment method has proven any more effective than any other. This on demand webinar will explain Tinnitus Stepped-Care, a framework for providing tinnitus clinical services. The framework suggests guiding principles that are essential in each of six progressive steps of tinnitus clinical care rather than promoting specific procedures for assessment and treatment.

Summary: Despite the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 stating that people with disabilities should have access to their communities, a critical component has often been overlooked—training emergency first responders to communicate with people who have complex communication needs. In this session, two SLPs demonstrate how they have trained nearly 2,000 emergency first responders.

They describe survey results and recommendations on disaster preparedness for SLPs to support people who use AAC; propose strategies for clinicians to create a “friendship mindset” in AAC assessment and implementation; offer strategies for designing and implementing Visual Scene Displays (VSDs) as a component within AAC systems for clients across the lifespan; and describe how perspectives of adult part-time AAC communicators support assessment and intervention with beginning communicators who have intermittent, unreliable, and inconsistent speech.

Summary: SLPs who work in schools are encountering more students who may require augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), but these professionals may not always feel they have the tools to adequately assess and implement interventions. This session shares tips for conducting AAC evaluations in the school setting and using dynamic assessment to guide language intervention.
