Summary: While telepractice and tele-AAC services are often thought of as real-time services provided directly to an individual, asynchronous tele-AAC services that include highly individualized and clinically relevant content can be quite effective also. This course explores tele-AAC services as a continuum of support, highlighting the dynamic role of asynchronous tele-AAC in supporting not only the individual (with implementation and generalization, in particular) but also essential stakeholders, including communication partners. Summary: This SIG 11 Perspectives activity addresses the use of single-subject design in clinical education and supervision. In this article, the authors highlight the suitability of single-subject experimental design (SSED) to clinical practice research, particularly within supervisory settings. This practical tutorial provides examples of SSED and suggests possible research topics relevant to clinical education and supervision.

Summary: Listening effort is the allocation of mental resources to overcome obstacles in goal pursuit while listening. Sustained increased effort has important developmental implications. Factors that increase access to acoustic cues can reduce listening effort. This presentation addresses the measurement of listening effort, in addition to how language and auditory input affect effort in children who are hard of hearing. This course was presented and recorded at the 2019 ASHA Convention. Summary: Making appropriate recommendations and developing a relevant intervention plan can be challenging for professionals who treat children with auditory difficulties. This session will provide four case studies of children diagnosed with varying difficulties in auditory skills. Summary: This session will provide information to assist clinicians in making informed, evidence-based clinical decisions about CAPD assessment and intervention. For example, a considerable body of research has demonstrated the efficiency of individual central auditory tests and test batteries based on performance of individuals – including children – with confirmed CANS lesions. Similarly, there is substantial evidence that auditory training can be an effective treatment for central auditory processing deficits. This session will provide an overview of research support for existing and emerging assessment and treatment practices.
