Summary: There is a high prevalence of brain injury among youth and adults in the criminal justice system. The cognitive-communication impairments associated with brain injury can be a risk factor for both justice involvement and recidivism as well as barrier to successful community reintegration. This session focuses on the emerging role of SLPs with this underserved population, which may include assessment and intervention but may also include advocacy as well as training and education of front-line staff and justice professionals.

Summary: Older adults must make important decisions about their end-of-life care, and those with hearing and other communication disorders need special accommodations to participate in these important decisions to the fullest extent possible. Summary: SLPs are often underutilized in home health (HH) care settings despite the value they bring to patient care and outcomes. With the recent expansion of Medicare's home health value-based purchasing (HHVBP) model, the need for SLPs will only increase. This on demand webinar (available beginning May 16, 2024) will discuss the critical role SLPs play in the reimbursement structure of HH, in achieving the objectives of HHVBP, and as part of the interprofessional care team.

Summary: This journal course is composed of an article that discusses person-centered assessment methods and tools for primary progressive aphasia (PPA). Using case studies, the authors define and present components of person-centered assessment, outline the R.A.I.S.E. assessment framework, and discuss its practical applications for assessment and treatment of individuals with PPA as well as for working with their care partners. Summary: Behavioral tests for CAPDs can be affected by many factors, including cognition, development, compliance, and language ability, which limits interpretation of test results. This session will discuss electrophysiological testing, which provides an objective method of assessing the neural integrity of auditory processing at multiple levels of the auditory system and can aid in the interpretation of behavioral test results. This course is a recorded session from the 2018/2019 online conference “Central Auditory Processing Disorders (CAPD).”
