Summary: This course demonstrates how Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is using telehealth applications to address the needs of children with hearing loss during the COVID-19 pandemic and into the future, including remote hearing aid evaluations, fittings, programming, repairs, and functional benefit assessments. The course is one in a set of practical programs that address specific aspects of remote practice in audiology.

Summary: SLPs and audiologists alike may struggle to implement evidence-based practice (EBP) into their daily practice because they simply don’t have the time or resources to keep up with a rapidly growing research base. ASHA’s Evidence Maps serve as a time-saving, free, online tool that provides clinicians with a quick synopsis of synthesized research related to clinical practice. New and experienced users of the Evidence Maps will learn the ins and outs of features and navigation via a case study and guided practice to better locate and assess relevant research evidence to integrate into clinical decision-making.

Summary: Parents and caregivers rely on their audiologist to help develop their understanding of their child's hearing loss. According to recent research, parents' needs for knowledge go beyond understanding their child's hearing technology. Summary: This session discusses a project that established a cross-sector national consortium of self-advocates with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), family advocates, community providers, and health care professionals. The consortium guides and evaluates an environmental scan and literature review on best practices in educating health care professional students in the care of persons with IDD, including health care professional students addressing communication disorders.

Summary: While clinicians may know the fundamentals of evidence-based practice (EBP), many struggle to implement EBP in real-world situations with their clients. Often, this is due to limited research, a lack of high-quality research, or the absence of a clear takeaway from external scientific literature. In this course, participants will learn more about these obstacles and strategies to overcome them. Learning how to navigate these barriers will assist clinicians in making patient-centered and evidence-based clinical decisions. This course is the third in a series of micro courses on Evidence-Based Decision-Making, which use clinical scenario activities to help you to sharpen your EBP skills.

Summary: It is commonly understood that better outcomes for management and treatment of hearing loss can be linked to greater knowledge and acceptance of the condition by the patient/client/student and their families. Knowledge is power. However, often individuals and their families do not have access to an impartial site hosting a variety of resources for review. This presentation discusses the need and development of an accessible and neutral site where individuals and their families can access diverse information and a variety of literature around topics related to hearing loss. It will also cover the steps for the development of a cultural and informational center, including tips on fundraising and overall management.

Summary: Inclusion and reporting of clinical research participants from all backgrounds is the cornerstone to developing representative screening, assessment, and treatment models. One way to address the challenges of including a diverse group of participants is by developing community-based research partnerships. This live webinar (November 6, 2024, 1-2 p.m. ET) will discuss the importance of such partnerships as well as strategies to develop and maintain them.
