Summary: The recommended practices for diagnosis and intervention for central auditory processing disorder (CAPD) are dynamic, undergoing review and refinement as new research emerges. These recommended practices have been developed by groups like the American Academy of Audiology and ASHA, with careful discussion and consideration of points of disagreement. Nonetheless, a number of controversial assertions and practice recommendations continue to appear in the literature. This session will examine a number of these issues, with a focus on highlighting the current state of the evidence supporting best clinical practices and decision-making. Summary: Health care providers' attitudes toward and skills communicating with people with communication disabilities may affect patients' health care outcomes. This session presents research that suggests providers are aware of these inequities but lack skills and confidence to address them. Summary: While telepractice and tele-AAC services are often thought of as real-time services provided directly to an individual, asynchronous tele-AAC services that include highly individualized and clinically relevant content can be quite effective also. This course explores tele-AAC services as a continuum of support, highlighting the dynamic role of asynchronous tele-AAC in supporting not only the individual (with implementation and generalization, in particular) but also essential stakeholders, including communication partners.
