The speaker reviews the main types of bias that can potentially influence our thinking about who is and is not a candidate for a hearing aid. Summary: Many older adults experience a growing number of comorbidities and functional limitations as they age. An individual’s ability and willingness to access hearing care is influenced not only by the severity of his or her hearing loss but also by other health, socioeconomic, and environmental factors. This session discusses recent research on patient outcomes as well as reviews lessons learned from a human factors approach to hearing care for older adults, including addressing common comorbid conditions.
