Summary: This course includes five recorded sessions from the 2016 online conference “Maximizing Functional Outcomes for Patients With Dementia.” These sessions focus on key components of functional assessment and treatment of dementia within the constraints of current service delivery models. The conference included a total of 13 sessions, with the broad goal of describing a range of evidence-based clinical care techniques to get to the heart of patient-centered dementia care.

Summary: This session provides an interdisciplinary (audiology, otology, and physical therapy) perspective on management of patients with dizziness, specifically geared toward cutting-edge management techniques and recommendations for care. Summary: For stroke survivors with aphasia (SWA), language recovery is highly variable given the extent to which damage may exist in multiple neighboring brain regions. For African American SWA, social determinants of health also contribute to stroke recovery and aphasia rehabilitation, and SLPs can play a vital role in ensuring health equity. This session discusses evidence-based practices that holistically support neurorehabilitation for African American SWA, focusing on assessment, intervention, and culturally competent service provision that targets health-related quality of life and health literacy.

Summary: This recorded session from the ASHA Audiology 2022 Online Conference provides a comprehensive overview of today's modern and highly sensitive neurodiagnostic vestibular tests, including rotary chair, cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP), and video Head Impulse Testing (vHIT), as well as postural stability assessments. The presenters discuss how integrating these tests creates a diagnosis-based strategy that provides the team of diagnostic and rehabilitation professionals with direction and guidance as to the best vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) strategies for the individual patient. The session includes video examples of the range of VRT strategies, including adaptation and habituation.

Summary: Audiologists help to diagnose or rule out vestibular disorders and make recommendations for referrals and treatment. As part of treatment, quality of life must be discussed. This presentation discusses the current diagnostic criteria used for vestibular migraine, symptoms, assessment protocols, and treatment options. The speaker reviews the relationship between vertiginous migraines and Meniere's disease and addresses considerations for pediatric patients.
