Summary: This session provides an interdisciplinary (audiology, otology, and physical therapy) perspective on management of patients with dizziness, specifically geared toward cutting-edge management techniques and recommendations for care. The panel presentation discusses surgical and nonsurgical approaches and clinical cases to highlight patient benefits and improved clinical outcomes. Summary: Meniere’s disease (MD) rarely occurs in children. Due to this, care and treatment by knowledgeable clinicians and physicians are lacking. This presentation reviews a case of a 10-year-old male with diagnosed MD, the interdisciplinary approach for care and treatment, the cross-facility approach for obtaining best results, and follow-up hearing aid fitting suggestions for the affected ear. Summary: Comprehensive management and treatment for children with CAPDs necessitates effective evaluation of co-morbidities and other related factors. This session will examine language and other deficits that often affect kids with CAPDs, including those in reading, receptive language, higher-order language, executive functions, written language, and social/emotional behaviors. The speakers will discuss the relevant assessments that are available to contribute to a holistic evaluation to inform management and treatment decisions. Summary: Published research indicates that outcomes in children with hearing loss are generally lower than their hearing counterparts. Given the cascading effects auditory deprivation and language delays may cause in children, providing differential diagnoses can present a challenge. This course identifies commonly occurring comorbid presentations in children with hearing loss and describes the process of making differential diagnoses.

Summary: This presentation describes the case of a 48-year-old female presenting with vertigo and disequilibrium consistent with mal de debarquement (MdDS) following a weeklong vacation cruise. MRI images, audiometric, and vestibular results are presented, as well as an in-depth review of MdDS and Chiari malformation and their impact on vestibular function and quality of life.

Summary: Audiologists help to diagnose or rule out vestibular disorders and make recommendations for referrals and treatment. As part of treatment, quality of life must be discussed. This presentation discusses the current diagnostic criteria used for vestibular migraine, symptoms, assessment protocols, and treatment options. The speaker reviews the relationship between vertiginous migraines and Meniere's disease and addresses considerations for pediatric patients.

Summary: This recorded session from the ASHA Audiology 2022 Online Conference provides a comprehensive overview of today's modern and highly sensitive neurodiagnostic vestibular tests, including rotary chair, cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP), and video Head Impulse Testing (vHIT), as well as postural stability assessments. The presenters discuss how integrating these tests creates a diagnosis-based strategy that provides the team of diagnostic and rehabilitation professionals with direction and guidance as to the best vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) strategies for the individual patient. The session includes video examples of the range of VRT strategies, including adaptation and habituation.

Summary: This session will examine the diagnosis and treatment of persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD). The session will explore the recently defined criteria for the presentation and symptoms of the disorder as well as describe current and emerging research that is helping clinicians and researchers better understand it. The speaker will also discuss how chronic co-morbid disorders such as migraine and Meniere’s disease should be factored into the treatment of this disorder.

Summary: This course describes a study that utilizes a multiple baseline across behaviors design to investigate the efficacy of a caregiver training intervention to increase the use of targeted facilitative language techniques (FLTs)—strategies that caregivers use to encourage language development in their children. This study utilizes telehealth to deliver a training program for caregivers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Summary: This session addresses the diagnosis of pediatric vestibular and balance disorders. Particular focus is paid to the most common audiological testing accommodations for pediatric patients suffering from dizziness and imbalance as well as the etiologies of such disorders seen in the pediatric population.
