Summary: Coverage of and payment for SLP services for patients with complex medical conditions requires SLPs to navigate provider guidelines and payment systems related to multiple sites of service and multiple episodes of care. Summary: This session covers a unique case of bilateral temporal bone fractures: one that spares the otic capsule yet presents with a large sensorineural component. The speaker describes the anatomy and physiology of the temporal bone to provide background information about potential structures that can be damaged in a fracture as well as explain the varying etiologies of temporal bone fractures (TBF). In addition, this session discusses possible outcomes from a TBF in relation to hearing loss and facial nerve function and potential implications for treatment, including cochlear implantation.

Summary: This recorded session from the ASHA Audiology 2022 Online Conference examines the state of the literature supporting clinical decision-making about pediatric hearing aid candidacy. The speaker reviews the main types of bias that can potentially influence our thinking about who is and is not a candidate for a hearing aid.
