Summary: Many clinicians may feel they lack the time, skills, or competence to effectively address diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); it might feel like one more thing on an already-long list of considerations and requirements. But if we focus on our passion for working with people and change our perspective about providing culturally responsive services, then it's not more work, it is the work. This course discusses the value of addressing DEI as part of audiology and SLP services and provides practical ideas for doing so.

Summary: Professional fatigue and self-care are critical issues for audiologists and speech-language pathologists. Without attention and intervention, professional fatigue can negatively impact a professional’s home life, relationships, personal well-being, work life, and/or ability to deliver person-centered care. This course explores the concepts of empathy, emotional contagion, compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatization, and burnout as they relate to the professions and offers tips to avoid and address these challenges.

Summary: In this course, two experts in adult learning present proven strategies to help presenters deliver more impactful learning experiences—ones that effectively support a learner’s ability to gain and apply new knowledge or skills. Summary: This session provides an interdisciplinary (audiology, otology, and physical therapy) perspective on management of patients with dizziness, specifically geared toward cutting-edge management techniques and recommendations for care. The panel presentation discusses surgical and nonsurgical approaches and clinical cases to highlight patient benefits and improved clinical outcomes. Summary: Knowing when, why, and who to refer for central auditory evaluation is challenging, particularly in school settings. This session will address questions that professionals who work in schools or with young people may face: Are there “red flags" for a CAPD? What will I know after the evaluation that I don’t already know? Will results change services? Are we “overtesting/over-referring”? Are there ways to provide screening and/or intervention services that align with school-based RtI/MTSS models of intervention? How can schools screen for processing issues in ways that meet students’ needs and use resources efficiently? After screening, what’s next? Are procedures different across work settings? Summary: Meniere’s disease (MD) rarely occurs in children. Due to this, care and treatment by knowledgeable clinicians and physicians are lacking. This presentation reviews a case of a 10-year-old male with diagnosed MD, the interdisciplinary approach for care and treatment, the cross-facility approach for obtaining best results, and follow-up hearing aid fitting suggestions for the affected ear. Summary: Health care providers' attitudes toward and skills communicating with people with communication disabilities may affect patients' health care outcomes. This session presents research that suggests providers are aware of these inequities but lack skills and confidence to address them. The session explores how training and other initiatives are needed to help providers better care for patients with communication disabilities.

Summary: Making appropriate recommendations and developing a relevant intervention plan can be challenging for professionals who treat children with auditory difficulties. This session will provide four case studies of children diagnosed with varying difficulties in auditory skills.
