Summary: This live webinar (April 25, 2024, 1–3 p.m. ET) will highlight the behaviors and characteristics typically associated with hearing loss and those typically associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children from birth to age 10. The speakers will emphasize the unique characteristics that contribute to the dual diagnosis of both ASD and hearing loss. The course will explain the impacts of social determinants of health as they relate to the diagnosis of and intervention for children with ASD and hearing loss.

Specific topics include: assessing article production accuracy in an Arabic-English speaking child as well as examination of the utility of the Vietnamese language version of the Modified Checklist of Autism in Toddlers-Revision with Follow-Up (M-CHAT-R/F) for screening Vietnamese children for autism risk.

They discuss how to use a collaborative approach to diagnosis, tips on communicating with school professionals to facilitate a student’s return to school, and what it takes to provide empathetic care to patients with this often-misunderstood disorder.
