Summary: In this course, three SLPs share their perspectives on working with multilingual students and overcoming challenges and barriers to equitable and effective augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) interventions. The course explores practical strategies, tools, and templates to help SLPs engage students and families, support multiple languages in AAC devices for students who are speaking or nonspeaking, and advocate for affirming practices that center the whole child.

Summary: This session describes predictors of hearing aid use time for adolescents who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) as well as activities that target self-advocacy in this population. Summary: This session describes a research investigation of speech recognition in quiet and noise in thousands of patients with varying degrees of hearing loss. Based on the data, the speaker provides clinical recommendations in which speech recognition in noise can become the default test of speech perception in routine audiologic assessment, and word recognition in quiet is only performed when it is likely to be suboptimal.

Summary: By conducting ethnographic interviews during assessment, clinicians can develop more personalized and effective treatment plans that truly fit the needs of the patient, client, or student. This course introduces ethnographic interviewing and explains how it can elicit culturally relevant information about a child's communication development from a family member's perspective, which is critical in determining a disorder and developing a more tailored and effective treatment plan.

Summary: This session provides instruction on creating and using readily producible visual aids (i.e., video play models, static play photos, Play Plan) to support executive function (EF), play, and narrative skills in preschoolers with DLD. Summary: This session presents a brief overview of central auditory processing skills, assessment procedures, and results interpretation, followed by a review of multiple clinical cases of adult patients evaluated for central auditory processing disorder (CAPD)/deficits at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Summary: This presentation highlights case studies exhibiting the SLP's role in assessing and treating previously healthy toddlers with disorders of consciousness in the acute rehab setting. These case studies demonstrate the opportunities and challenges of utilizing the pediatric Coma Recovery Scale when assessing these patients, the relationship between emerging oral motor skills and cognition, and treatment approaches for returning to PO intake in this population. Finally, these case studies highlight how interdisciplinary collaboration is one of the keys to success with this patient population.

Summary: The Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) is a diagnostic tool used to assess the function of the balance system, specifically the semicircular canals (SCC) and vestibular-ocular reflex (VOR). This on demand webinar will review the anatomy and physiology of these systems, how the vHIT provides ear-specific data for each SCC, and how the vHIT can help diagnose vestibular hypofunction. The presentation will focus on testing pediatric patients, including test modifications and interpretation considerations.
