Summary: This course explores an effective technique for building complex narrative language and thought. By "pressing pause," SLPs and students can take time to talk about and connect "thoughts" (mental states) to elements of story grammar such as initiating events, feelings, and plans. This process is integral for discovering intentions and motivations, perspective-taking, thinking critically, solving problems, and participating in social situations. Speakers also discuss a powerful way to teach "inference" using film "jump cuts."

Summary: This on demand webinar (available beginning November 20, 2020) will address interprofessional collaboration between SLPs and Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) when assessing and implementing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Focusing on a case study where collaboration improved outcomes for a young child who uses AAC, the speaker will address terminology and language frameworks used by each field, highlight the perspective of each discipline, and share practical strategies for facilitating collaboration. Summary: Two deficits commonly caused by damage to the right hemisphere are unilateral neglect and anosognosia. Unilateral neglect is reduced attention to one region of space, and anosognosia is reduced awareness of deficits. These deficits commonly co-occur and have an impact on how well a patient participates in and responds to treatment. This webinar will discuss characteristics, assessment, and treatment of both disorders.

Summary: Pediatric traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are underreported, which means that many children and teens are not getting needed services to help with post-injury cognitive issues that, though often mild, can cause academic and other difficulties. This webinar will discuss recent advances in the characteristics, recovery trajectories, assessments, and interventions for children and adolescents with TBI. Discussion will include evidence-based approaches to assessment and treatment that SLPs can implement immediately in clinical practice. The speaker will also discuss the important role of the SLP as a multidisciplinary team member treating this patient population and advocating for patients/clients/families.
