Summary: For stroke survivors with aphasia (SWA), language recovery is highly variable given the extent to which damage may exist in multiple neighboring brain regions. For African American SWA, social determinants of health also contribute to stroke recovery and aphasia rehabilitation, and SLPs can play a vital role in ensuring health equity.
