Summary: Audiologists and speech-language pathologists need to be informed about and implement appropriate infection control practices regardless of their practice setting. This course describes the fundamentals of health care epidemiology and infection control, including pathogen transmission, outbreak management, occupational health management, prevention, and management of various infections.
Presenter(s): Gregory C Robinson, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: Transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) students often have to deal with negative responses that can take a serious toll on their mental health. Research shows that having just one supportive adult in the child's life can significantly reduce these harmful outcomes. This on demand webinar explores—and provides opportunities for practicing—skills for communicating with students and coworkers in gender-inclusive ways and developing a toolbox of allyship with TGNB students.
Presenter(s): Kathryn Clapsaddle, MS, CCC-SLP

Summary: Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) can be life-changing for many individuals, but due to its complex and commercial nature, it also comes with a myriad of potential ethical concerns. Clinicians can improve AAC assessment and intervention outcomes for those they serve by being confident they are making ethically informed decisions about AAC use. This webinar uses case studies to discuss common ethical dilemmas encountered in the use of AAC, leaning on the ASHA Code of Ethics for support. The presenter outlines a process for ethical decision-making and shares trends in school and health care settings that affect ethical decision-making as it relates to AAC use.
Presenter(s): Brenda K. Gorman, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: Whether they themselves are monolingual or bilingual, SLPs must be able to conduct communication assessments with bilingual children. This webinar discusses typical communication development in bilingual children and explores valid assessment practices for this population.
Presenter(s): Kirrie Ballard, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: This course provides a brief overview of the current diagnostic method and its limitations, followed by discussion and demonstration of effective objective and semi-automated speech measures for identifying acquired AOS in both stroke and progressive forms. Video case examples and demonstrations of these measures will be provided so that clinicians can immediately begin putting this knowledge into practice.
Presenter(s): Colleen K. Worthington, MS, CCC-SLP

Summary: Language is a highly complex human behavior, and yet SLPs often are expected to assess children for language disorders by administering a single, standardized test. However, this "one-size-fits-all" approach often yields inadequate results. This webinar will describe steps to help SLPs develop clear rationales and clinical decision-making strategies to assess fundamental language skills more effectively and facilitate intervention planning. The speaker will identify and discuss models that align the clinical questions underlying an evaluation with desired diagnostic outcomes.
Presenter(s): Kathleen Scaler Scott, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-F

Summary: Differential diagnosis of stuttering from cluttering, atypical disfluency, language-disorder-related disfluency, and covert stuttering can be confusing and challenging. This webinar will provide strategies and methods for differential diagnosis of these disorders as well as ideas for developing treatment plans for each.
Presenter(s): Tiffany P. Hogan, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: This on demand webinar will discuss identification of and intervention for dyslexia, focusing on the critical role the SLP plays on the school-based literacy team. The speaker will dispel myths about dyslexia diagnosis and treatment, discuss how to apply criteria to identify dyslexia in the context of other disorders, and identify evidence-based practices for treating children with dyslexia.
Presenter(s): Christine Sapienza, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: Behavioral interventions that provide a calibrated mode for strengthening inspiratory and expiratory muscles are limited and often non-evidence-based. This on demand webinar discusses the evidence base for respiratory muscle strength training (RMST) devices and shares the assessment and treatment protocols necessary for valid implementation of respiratory muscle strength training protocols. The course will be useful for SLPs working in health care settings treating acute and chronic conditions that impact the functions of breathing, coughing, swallowing, and vocalizing that result from skeletal muscle weakness.
Presenter(s): Erin S. Ross, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: To support infants in the NICU setting and maximize oral feeding outcomes for these babies, SLPs need to consider the maturational status of premature infants, medical conditions of ill newborns, and positive and negative experiences in the NICU. This webinar will address the maturation of the oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal phases of swallowing, which directly affect safety and efficiency, as well as medical conditions that increase an infant’s risk of feeding disorders. We will explore evidence-based interventions designed to improve feeding experiences, taking into account maturational and medical status, and discuss the concept of homeostasis and its importance in the NICU.
