Summary: There is a high prevalence of brain injury among youth and adults in the criminal justice system. The cognitive-communication impairments associated with brain injury can be a risk factor for both justice involvement and recidivism as well as barrier to successful community reintegration. This session focuses on the emerging role of SLPs with this underserved population, which may include assessment and intervention but may also include advocacy as well as training and education of front-line staff and justice professionals.

Summary: This on demand webinar will provide guidelines for dismissal from stuttering treatment to create a safety net for children who stutter. The speakers will discuss common barriers to appropriate discharge and strategies for overcoming these barriers so SLPs can support children to enhance quality of life and develop communication confidence. The webinar will discuss establishing person-centered, individualized, and measurable goals at the time of evaluation; ensuring client-driven and dynamic treatment; using goals to guide decisions about dismissal; and providing ongoing support and maintenance during and following dismissal. Summary: In this session, the authors briefly review the literature on the developmental risks and auditory effects of pediatric unilateral hearing loss. Then, members of the Boston Children's Hospital's Cochlear Implant team discuss (a) the interdisciplinary evaluation process for determining candidacy for cochlear implantation, (b) the institution's aural rehabilitation protocol post-surgery, (c) specific outcome measures used to determine benefit, and (d) initial audiological outcomes for cochlear implant users with single-sided deafness.

Summary: Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a complex sensory-motor speech disorder that typically requires both intensive individualized intervention and systematic opportunities for generalization and carryover.
