Summary: SLPs and audiologists alike may struggle to implement evidence-based practice (EBP) into their daily practice because they simply don’t have the time or resources to keep up with a rapidly growing research base. ASHA’s Evidence Maps serve as a time-saving, free, online tool that provides clinicians with a quick synopsis of synthesized research related to clinical practice. New and experienced users of the Evidence Maps will learn the ins and outs of features and navigation via a case study and guided practice to better locate and assess relevant research evidence to integrate into clinical decision-making.

Summary: This session describes the value of interprofessional practice (IPP) on a pediatric FEES (flexible [or fiberoptic] endoscopic evaluation of swallowing) team. The presenter shares FEES case studies that illustrate this collaborative model for dysphagia management; describes the successes and challenges encountered by the IPP team during pediatric FEES; and reviews current FEES literature in the pediatric population.

By reviewing speech sound assessment information, including narrow transcription of a student's utterances, the goals can be tailored to the student, thereby facilitating goal attainment. Summary: Loss of effective communication can occur across the spectrum of critical illness and recovery, particularly with the use of artificial airways, including endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes. Patients report ongoing, long-term impacts to their psychosocial well-being and quality of life due to their lack of ability to communicate immediate care and comfort needs as well as participate in activities with a variety of communication partners. This session focuses on identifying, measuring, and supporting a patient's psychosocial well-being and quality of life as it relates to communication function.
