Summary: This course features moderated discussions among a panel of clinicians who collectively provide cochlear implant auditory rehabilitation (AR) to patients of all ages. Summary: Neurodivergent SLPs (including those with dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety, autism, etc.) have unique insights and expertise, making them invaluable assets for fostering client-centered care within speech-language pathology practice. In this session, three neurodivergent SLPs who started their own private practices due to lack of supportive and accessible options discuss employment and supervision barriers. They share systemic and individualistic shifts to support neurodivergent SLPs.

Summary: In this session, the authors briefly review the literature on the developmental risks and auditory effects of pediatric unilateral hearing loss. Then, members of the Boston Children's Hospital's Cochlear Implant team discuss (a) the interdisciplinary evaluation process for determining candidacy for cochlear implantation, (b) the institution's aural rehabilitation protocol post-surgery, (c) specific outcome measures used to determine benefit, and (d) initial audiological outcomes for cochlear implant users with single-sided deafness.

Summary: Many SLPs who provide early intervention (EI) services are aware of the neurodiversity paradigm and neurodiversity-affirming practices but still have questions about incorporating these practices into their services. Summary: This course explores the most commonly fit devices for patients whose hearing is significantly poorer in one ear than the other (e.g., single-sided deafness or asymmetric hearing loss) and identify factors that impact device selection and hearing management.
