Summary: In this course, enter into a conversation between an SLP and an individual living with dementia about the experience of being on both sides of the provision of speech services. Since individuals living with communication disorders are the true experts, this session will allow firsthand insight into effective interventions, challenges in navigating the medical system, and compensatory strategies that have supported self-advocacy. This presentation is an invitation to deepen your understanding, empathy, and skills to elevate the care and support you provide to your patients with dementia.

Summary: This course describes a study that includes findings from semi-structured interviews with people with Parkinson's disease (PD) and their family members (based in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas) about their current unmet needs and barriers to service delivery. In addition, the course discusses some of the future directions and avenues that may benefit the PD community.

Summary: Neurodivergent SLPs (including those with dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety, autism, etc.) have unique insights and expertise, making them invaluable assets for fostering client-centered care within speech-language pathology practice. In this session, three neurodivergent SLPs who started their own private practices due to lack of supportive and accessible options discuss employment and supervision barriers. They share systemic and individualistic shifts to support neurodivergent SLPs.

This course discusses strategies for the speaker, listener, and environment that clinicians can consider for managing progressive motor speech disorders.
