Summary: This recorded dialogue features an AAC user and two assistive technology experts, who discuss various aspects of implementing AAC in schools, including intervention strategies, working with other school professionals, and making the most of your time to have the biggest impact. Summary: This session reviews what it means for a measure to be objective, subjective, and/or valid and applies these concepts to fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). Summary: In order to best serve adolescent students transitioning to post-secondary settings, SLPs have to keep the end in mind. What are students’ college and/or career goals and how can we use current research on what employers want and what entry-level college courses expect to best prepare them for their future? Summary: Modifying diet consistencies is one of the more common approaches to dysphagia care. However, much controversy remains regarding how SLPs tackle decision-making and about the actual modification and measurement of liquids and foods in terms of nutrition and safety as primary goals of dysphagia treatment. This session addresses the complexities in both processes, with a focus on achieving the best outcomes for each patient.

Summary: In this series of SIG 3 articles, a foundation for laryngeal endoscopic imaging and interpreting videostroboscopic parameters is provided. These concepts are then put into practice in the context of three case studies focused on muscle tension dysphonia, bilateral vocal fold lesions, and vocal fold immobility. In the cases, auditory perceptual analysis, acoustic and aerodynamic measures, and candidacy for voice therapy are assessed in addition to videostroboscopic parameters. Video and audio examples are included to provide an interactive experience for the reader.

Summary: This session is a clinical tutorial that uses cases examples to integrate the practices of language sample analysis and fluency assessment. It focuses on the implementation of fluency codes in narrative retell language samples. Speakers provide information on how to identify and accurately code specific types of disfluencies within a narrative retell language sample. The tutorial provides clinicians with practical tools to use in particular narrative retell language samples to assess fluency and language production skills in bilingual and monolingual children. Assessment Framework for Primary Progressive Aphasia." The authors discussed the R.A.I.S.E. assessment framework and its clinical applications and future directions.

Summary: This trio of SIG 13 articles provides information regarding managing and treating dysphagia with adult patients. First, Abrams and co-authors underscore the importance of hydration and discovered that individuals consuming thickened liquids are often at risk for dehydration. Factors to increase fluid intake through different strategies are discussed. Next, Arguello and Kerr discuss the mechanism of a facial burn injury and how it may cause functional impairments that can be directly impacted through early intervention utilizing speech-language pathology services. Finally, Warner and colleagues completed a pilot study investigating the prevalence of pretreatment dysphagia in oncologic patients and individual factors influencing post treatment dysphagia.
