Summary: This on demand webinar will discuss evaluating children with voice disorders, including determining the appropriate clinical path to a comprehensive voice evaluation. The speaker will present strategies and techniques for collecting and evaluating voice samples; highlight no-tech and low-tech assessment methods; and discuss the importance of identifying children with dysphonic voices from an educational and social-emotional perspective. This presentation will be relevant for SLPs across practice settings who see children of all ages with voice disorders.

Summary: It is well known within our field that identifying voice and upper airway specialized training opportunities and subsequent positions is challenging, competitive, and sometimes elusive. In this SIG 3 activity, various pathways to specializing in voice and upper airway disorders are explored from the viewpoint of different authors at various stages of their careers. The hope is to make the process of specialization more transparent and share components that have contributed to success, while also highlighting the diversity of training and experience that is so important in our field.

Summary: Motor speech disorders occur secondary to a wide variety of progressive neurological disorders. This course discusses strategies for the speaker, listener, and environment that clinicians can consider for managing progressive motor speech disorders. Presenters discuss management strategies in the context of concomitant decline of cognitive-linguistic and motoric function from neurodegenerative processes.

Summary: Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a complex sensory-motor speech disorder that typically requires both intensive individualized intervention and systematic opportunities for generalization and carryover. CAS also has significant academic and functional impacts, especially on participation, language, and literacy. This session uses case studies to explore areas of need requiring different service delivery models in the school setting. The speaker discusses potential areas of collaboration to support the learning and full participation of children with CAS. Emerging trends in the CSD profession and the healthcare and education sectors are both a blessing and a curse. For proactive leaders, emerging trends are a source of exciting new opportunities. Instead of waiting for their boss to direct them to take a class or enhance their skills, proactive leaders make a conscious effort to assess, refresh and build their capabilities. Further, when faced with a promotion or expansion of their role, visionary leaders prepare for the transition using strategies to prevent derailment.
