Summary: This course focuses on a meaning-based approach to language assessment and intervention for intentional communication skills in young children. The nonlinguistic and linguistic context support meaning-driven communication expressed with language form from the child. Speakers discuss language sample analysis and the developmental hierarchy of Language Content/Form/Use, and highlight how this approach is less biased than norm-based assessments when used with children from culturally and linguistically diverse contexts.

Summary: Many of the static assessments administered by speech-language pathologists have some degree of cultural assumptions and are often limited in representing diverse groups. Summary: As a bystander, we may not recognize a microaggression as it is happening, may not know what to do, or may feel uncomfortable speaking up, but a passive response can significantly exacerbate the consequences. How should we respond when we witness a microaggression? This course explores how to change our natural response as a bystander from passive to productive and guides us through practice activities to improve our ability to recognize microaggressions and increase our confidence in speaking up.
