Summary: Speech-language pathologists recognize that the students they serve have unique strengths and challenges. However, it can be difficult to use a strengths-based approach when eligibility determination and program planning usually focus on what students can't do. Summary: Due process hearings are legal procedures established in special education to provide for resolution when the parents and school personnel disagree. This session reviews ethical principles associated with due process and the legal responsibilities associated with being a witness in a due process hearing. Summary: Teachers and administrators increasingly turn to school-based SLPs for intervention for executive functioning (EF) deficits. This session is directed toward clinicians working in schools (especially high schools) who have acquired the basic background knowledge (e.g., what is EF, what are the particular domains of EF, etc.) and need to learn how to plan and implement specific EF interventions.

Summary: This session discusses practical strategies to adapt speech sound disorder assessment, treatment, and collaborative practices to appropriately determine educational need in line with federal and state laws and regulations.
