Summary: Speech sound disorders (SSDs) exist along a spectrum of severity and abilities, with many involving both the motoric and the phonological system. As a result, many children with SSDs experience related issues with the phonological skills needed for word reading and spelling. This session reviews the Simple Views of Reading and of Writing and connects those theories to assessment practices. The speaker discusses ideas for adapting speech sound intervention activities to include phonological awareness, decoding, and spelling.

Summary: The Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) is a diagnostic tool used to assess the function of the balance system, specifically the semicircular canals (SCC) and vestibular-ocular reflex (VOR). This on demand webinar will review the anatomy and physiology of these systems, how the vHIT provides ear-specific data for each SCC, and how the vHIT can help diagnose vestibular hypofunction. The presentation will focus on testing pediatric patients, including test modifications and interpretation considerations.

Summary: This course describes a study that utilizes a multiple baseline across behaviors design to investigate the efficacy of a caregiver training intervention to increase the use of targeted facilitative language techniques (FLTs)—strategies that caregivers use to encourage language development in their children. This study utilizes telehealth to deliver a training program for caregivers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Summary: This session highlights recent advances in understanding language acquisition in children who are deaf/hard of hearing (DHH), with an emphasis on the acquisition of sign languages (either on their own or alongside spoken languages). Summary: In this course, the presenter discusses logical fallacies that commonly occur in spoken and written discourse and the social implications of passively accepting biased, illogical, and inaccurate statements. Summary: Published research indicates that outcomes in children with hearing loss are generally lower than their hearing counterparts. Given the cascading effects auditory deprivation and language delays may cause in children, providing differential diagnoses can present a challenge. This course identifies commonly occurring comorbid presentations in children with hearing loss and describes the process of making differential diagnoses.

What are students’ college and/or career goals and how can we use current research on what employers want and what entry-level college courses expect to best prepare them for their future? In this session, the speaker discusses tools to modify intervention plans to incorporate current evidence in neurodiversity and self-determination theory as well as strategies for collaboration with a focus on student strengths.
