Summary: As the professional landscape continues to evolve, audiologists and speech-language pathologists must provide high-quality, skilled services while at the same time serving a greater number of individuals and demonstrating the value of the services they provide. This webinar explores current trends in the professions and offers advice to help professionals manage their workload, make the most of their time, and best serve new and existing clients, patients, and students. Specifically, the webinar discusses practicing at the top of the license, working with assistants, using the ICF framework to document services, exploring and implementing a range of service delivery options, and collaborating with an interprofessional team. Summary: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to our patients for in-person treatment may be limited and our ability to develop a relationship with patients/caregivers may have taken a toll due to facility protocols to protect against the spread of infection. As health care providers, we must reflect on our abilities to communicate with patients and their families, ensuring understanding of their deficits and treatment options even as we continue through a pandemic. This course provides the clinician with a review of holistic assessments and health literacy approaches that will empower the patient to make informed decisions. Summary: Even before the COVID-19 pandemic required clinicians to rapidly adapt their practice for remote service provision, researchers were already exploring effective telehealth approaches for audiology. The articles in this journal self-study (selected from a special issue of the American Journal of Audiology, “4th International Meeting on Internet and Audiology”) examine teleaudiology tools and methodologies for hearing screenings, home-based auditory assessment for people who use cochlear implants, assessing hearing aid outcomes using ecological momentary assessment (EMA), and a tool for evaluating hearing aid performance.

Summary: Emerging treatment approaches for age-related hearing loss include alternative interventions aimed at ameliorating symptoms and slowing down or even preventing hearing loss, in contrast with current treatment approaches, which focus primarily on amplification and communication strategies. This session will explore up-and-coming approaches, such as pre-clinical investigation of hormones (e.g., Aldosterone) correlated with auditory function; medicinal-related interventions; and challenges to timelines to bring new treatments to market.

Summary: While remote service delivery has been around for several years, eAudiology (also known as teleaudiology) is becoming a daily reality for many audiologists, in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This course discusses how eAudiology addresses the need for improving patient experience, providing innovative services, and increasing clinic efficiency. The speakers highlight how the recent advances in hearing aid remote programming fit with eAudiology, strategies for introducing eAudiology services to patients who can benefit from them, and how to best utilize eAudiology during and post-pandemic. Summary: This recorded session from the ASHA Audiology 2022 Online Conference provides a comprehensive overview of today's modern and highly sensitive neurodiagnostic vestibular tests, including rotary chair, cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP), and video Head Impulse Testing (vHIT), as well as postural stability assessments. The presenters discuss how integrating these tests creates a diagnosis-based strategy that provides the team of diagnostic and rehabilitation professionals with direction and guidance as to the best vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) strategies for the individual patient. The session includes video examples of the range of VRT strategies, including adaptation and habituation.

Summary: It is commonly understood that better outcomes for management and treatment of hearing loss can be linked to greater knowledge and acceptance of the condition by the patient/client/student and their family. This presentation discusses the need and development of an accessible and neutral site where individuals and their families can access diverse information and a variety of literature around topics related to hearing loss. It will also cover the steps for the development of a cultural and informational center, including tips on fundraising and overall management.

Summary: This session analyzed the correlation between the binaural summation measured via acoustic reflex thresholds and the results of the masking level difference established for 500 Hz in 60 participants. The Pearson Correlation Analyses between the MLD values and the binaural summation revealed a significant (r= 0.277; p = 0.032) correlation when the probe stimulus was presented to the right ear and the reflex evoking clicks were presented to the left ear. Although the correlation is significant, the effect size is small, suggesting that each measure may provide information about both similar and different aspects of binaural processing and can be included in a battery of auditory processing disorders (APD) tests.
